ARCI has been involved working in jails for many years. In doing so, the Association has developed projects and networks fostering actions in favour of inmates and their lives inside and outside walls of jails. Pursuing its work, ARCI Liguria took on a new European-wide challenge in 2015 by leading Skills for Freedom. Artistic paths to develop the professional skills of prisoners, a project financed by the Erasmus+ Programme - KA2 Strategic Partnership for Adult Education.

HOW TO IMPROVE AND JOB-MATCH INMATES’ COMPETENCES. EXPERIENCES AND RESULTS IN THE ARTISTIC FIELD.
Skills assumes as a fact the presence, diffusion and effectiveness of artistic activities—theatrical in particular—that are carried on together with inmates to facilitate their staying in jail and promote paths towards rehabilitation. Thanks to a three-years long work and a network composed of ten partners in eight countries, Skills pursues its ambitious ultimate aim to support inmates’ reintegration inside jobs market after serving terms.
Halfway, Skills for Freedom shows itself to the public; with its partnership it presents the results collected in the Common European framework for the transversal and specific skills developed by prisoners through artistic and theatrical trainings and the created Operations Manual for the development of inmates’ soft and hard skills .
ARCI Liguria, with Asturia (Belgium), SSW Collegium Balticum (Poland), ÉFA Équipe Formatori Associati (Italy) will also launch the European Job-Matching Database (Skills after prison) , asking some invited panellist to analyse and discuss it.
The conference will start a wider reflection about policies and initiatives that are able to build bridge between the inside and the outside.
